Educator
Ben Paulding teaches at Brandeis University, Inspire Arts and Music, and ZUMIX, and has presented workshops at Brandeis University, New England Conservatory, College of the Holy Cross, and more. While living in Ghana in 2012-2014, Ben taught music at Kumasi’s International Community School.
Teaching Positions
Brandeis University | Waltham, MA
On faculty in the music deptartment since Spring 2015, Ben teaches Fafali: Music and Dance from Ghana, a popular experiential learning course where students study Ewe and Asante dance-drumming from West Africa. In the Spring of 2020, he is piloting a new course entitled Survey of West African Music: Dance-Drumming from Senegal to Nigeria.
Zumix | East Boston, MA
Ben teaches at award-winning Boston youth music center Zumix (National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award Winner, 2011). Ben‘s youth African drumming ensemble has performed at Harvard University, Brandeis University, and the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade.
Inspire Arts and Music | Boston, MA
Director of Urban Programming at Inspire Arts and Music, Ben teaches after school youth world percussion ensembles for Boston youth who do not have instrumental music as part of their school curriculum. Ben currently teaches two ensembles in Hyde Park, and one in East Boston.
